Since our products and services are as varied as the client needs we serve, we may negotiate different rates for different projects. But our typical hourly rate is $165 AUD (including GST).
We charge disbursements (such as photocopying and postage) separately, but we only charge what the disbursements cost us (we do not mark-up disbursements). For example, photocopying usually costs about 20c a page. We do not charge extra for database access or for using our proprietary software.
Sometimes, we can do projects for a flat fee. A flat fee is most appropriate where the scope of your project is clear and unlikely to change.
We also offer a retainer program. Lawyers who retain us get access to our priority service. By paying us a retainer amount upfront, we will as far as professionally possible prioritise your matters ahead of clients who have not retained us.
Whatever payment option you prefer, we always work out costs in a principled way:
1. You never pay for finding out whether we can help you
If you have a question relating to a project, or a possible project, email us the details. If we can help you, we will send you a free, no-obligation work proposal and cost estimate. You pay nothing until both parties have accepted the agreed terms and conditions of the project, at the agreed rate.
2. We will work out the proposed cost of your project based on a detailed method of calculating costs
Those costs will be based on such factors as the nature and complexity of your project, and your project's timetable, resource requirements, and duration. Our projects usually cost markedly less than what you would normally expect to pay a lawyer or law firm for the same service.
3. We will keep you constantly informed
Once you have agreed to our work proposal and quote, we will send you regular updates on not only the project's progress, but also the project's costs.
4. No unnecessary mark-ups
We will recoup expenses (such as photocopying) strictly on an at cost basis.
5. Flexible payment methods
If you prefer, we can suggest an hourly rate for your project, or you might prefer to nominate a fixed budget, or even implement a retainer program. You can also pay us by a variety of means, including electronic money transfer, credit card, and bank cheque.
