People increase reading speed with practice. Imagine an athlete who practices daily and increases their performance and surpasses their personal best in order to obtain a desired goal. This is the same with speed reading. You can improve your reading speed with practice and a way to do this is to follow a speed reading course.

There are multiple speed reading courses from which you can choose. Most speed reading courses come with a tuition fee. But you can also create your own speed reading course, which you can follow daily and obtain almost the same results for free.Or you can use a speed reading course delivered through speed reading software.

When creating your own speed reading course, you need to keep in mind that each of us is unique and that you need to personalize the speed reading course to suit your capabilities and your personality.

We read differently as adults than we do as children. When we begin to learn how to read we begin by reading letters and words. Most children read the words one-by-one until they form a sentence; then, they reread the words together to understand the sentence.

After a child’s reading comprehension level improves, the child reads the words at a faster pace and does not need to reread the sentence. Unfortunately, most of us retain the childhood technique of reading even in adulthood.

We read each word of the sentence and mentally pronounce the word, one at a time, slowing down the reading process. If you want to improve your reading speed, try to view at least two or three words at a time rather than concentrate on a single word.

To help you achieve this, we recommend that you invest in simple speed reading software. Use speed reading software that has two or three facilities that show a sequence of two, three, or more words at a time, at a selected speed.

Reading speed is measured in wpm (words per minute). With speed reading software, you can select a starting wpm and increase your wpm gradually.

Most speed reading software comes with an initial speed reading test, which measures your initial wpm so that you have a benchmark from which to assess your progress.

Today, speed reading software can do just a good a job as face-to-face speed reading courses, by incorporating video, speed reading tests, and speed reading training exercises.
