Legal research resources — overview

To do legal research properly, we believe you need to have access to 5 broad types of resources.

The 5 types of resources are:

1. your own inner world of knowledge and experience
    
2. sources available through your internal computer systems (such as a law firm intranet)
    
3. sources available through networks and strategic allies
    
4. free and fee-based sources available over the Internet
    
5. traditional or non-electronic sources, such as books and hard copy law reports.

Typically, law firms have adequate access to only 2 or 3 of these types of resources. By contrast, Research One has superior access to legal information from all 5 types of resources.

For example, in relation to each of the resources identified above, we have access to:

1. quality people, including legal experts, who have built up knowledge and experience over many years
    
2. our own custom software, databases, and technologies
    
3. legal sources accessible across Australia and in the US and UK through our networks and strategic allies
    
4. access to leading legal information databases
    
5. direct access to Australia's premier libraries and archives, such as the National Library and leading law school libraries.
